Ravens advance to CIS semifinals with 82-64 win over McMaster

Gee-Gees also move on to Saturday’s semifinals after defeating Saskatchewan

 

OTTAWA – The 2014 ArcelorMittal Dofasco CIS Final 8 Men’s Basketball Championship, hosted by theCarleton University Ravens, got underway at Canadian Tire Centre earlier today with four quarter-final matchups. Four teams remain in the hunt for the W.P. McGee Trophy, which will be presented to the national champion following Sunday’s final.

Results from the quarter-finals:
Quarter-final #1: No. 6 Saint Mary’s 62, No. 3 Alberta 72
Quarter-final #2: No. 7 McMaster 64, No. 2 Carleton 82
Quarter-final #3: No. 5 McGill 54,  No. 4 Victoria 63
Quarter-final #4: No. 8 Saskatchewan 73, No. 1 Ottawa 94

Saturday’s semifinal games at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. are single elimination matchups with the two winners advancing to Sunday afternoon’s championship game at 2 p.m. The Ravens, who entered the competition as reigning three-time champions after claiming their record ninth CIS title a year ago, will face the University of Alberta Golden Bears in the first semifinal matchup, while the No. 1 rankedUniversity of Ottawa Gee-Gees will face the University of Victory Vikes in the nightcap.

The consolation semifinal session will take place earlier on Saturday with games at 12:30 p.m. (McMaster vs. Saint Mary’s) and 2:30 p.m. (Saskchewan vs. McGill), while the lone Sunday session will also feature the bronze medal game at 10:30 a.m. Each of the three remaining sessions (six games in total) will take place at Canadian Tire Centre.
